One of the highlights of this trip was traveling down the Dunau (Danube) from Wien to Budapest by hydrofoil. The one way tickets are only 75 Euros, the boat docks are in central Wien, the ride only takes 5 hours, and the scenery and comfort are far superior to that of taking a train, flying or driving. If you decide to try this yourself, and I highly recommend it, make sure that you show up at least an hour before the departure time. When you get there, do not go to the pier itself, go to the coffee shop. As soon as you see someone show up in the customs booth, get in line so that you are at the head of the line. This will ensure that you get one of the four seats in the front row. The view from there is great! You can also go topside for a view during the trip.
