Images From my Second Trip to Budapest
Photos in Album: 33
During my first trip to Budapest I included photos outside of the huge market on Vamhaz Krt. This time I took photos inside to show you what it is like.
This trip I made it a point to visit the Parliment building. This is a memorial to those Brave Hungarians who stood up against the Communists and lost their life. You will notice that there is a hole in the middle of the flag - that was where there used to be a symbol of the communist regime. This photo from my first trip to Hungary shows similar treatment for the same reason
The interior of the Parliment is spectacular
Interestingly enough the Hungarian government has one house and not two houses such as in the US. This is the alternate room they can meet in and conduct business. The congress was in session so we were not able to see the primary meeting room, which is said to be identical to this one.
Another beautiful church in Budapest
The building in the middle of this photo with the overhang with letters is the very controversial "House of Terror", or terror hausen. A google search on "house of terror budapest will pull up a number of interesting articles for you to read about it. The short version is that when the Nazis were in control of Budapest this building was used for torture and interrogations. After the communists took over, they used the same building for the same purpose. This horrible irony showed both the far right fascists and far left communists having two things in common: torture and this building. I tried to see a tour of the house, but it was closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Once again I stayed at the beautiful Gellert Hotel and baths. I didn't get a suite this time, but this being my second visit to the hotel they gave me a quite large double.
