Images From my Trip to Dunajec
Photos in Album: 50
While in beautiful Poland, I took a day to go to the Dunaijec river gorge area, and from there went to this incredible little town called Zakopane. These are photos on the way to Dunajec.
Of all of the central and eastern european towns I've visited, the ones in Poland had the most variety of structures. It turns out that Poland was the only of the eastern block countries where the people did not lose their land rights. Consequently, many of the people grow all of the food they need on their small farms. I also only saw three tractors while I was there; most people had horses to use on the farm.
A typical open market
This is one of many stork nests. Tradition is that they bring good fortune to your household, so many homes will have nests placed on their roof in the hope that storks will nest in them.
It is very common to find small altars like this one
This is Niedzica castle. It is located 5 km west of Katy, perched above the Dunajec Gorge. The castle was built in the 1300's as one of the Hungarian border strongholds.
Driving onward to Dunajec itself we passed many families with horse-drawn carts.
These are the canoes that you would take when you go on the river gorge ride.
