The highlanders (which is what the poles call people from this area) are famous for their wonderful woodwork, especially on their homes. It is a sign of status to have a wood home such as this, much more than a stone or brick home. (This is because of the cost of the wood and the labor, compared to stone which they can usually find for free.)
