Photos Touring Around Kurland, Latvia

This is my guide, Zane Azace and our driver. Both were great!
These are some of the goodies we got that day. The part on the left is smoked fish, coated with nice cheese. Next to it is fresh pickled cucumbers. Next to that are fresh strawberries, and below them, smoked eel.

Our mercedes we rode in for the tours in Latvia
This is Zane picking wild strawberries on the side of the road. Those strawberries were really sweet too - well worth the stop!
Look close and you will see one of the wild strawberries
When I had first made arrangements for my Kurland tour I had read about a winery and asked to have a tour of the winery as part of the trip. It turns out that the regular winery there no longer offered tours, and an enterprising old gentleman there started offering his own "winery" tour. These are pictures from that tour. These are taken around his home. Apparently he has a lot of visitors, as the schools bring busses of school children around regularly, and later that day he had a group from a wedding party stopping by.
One of his claims to fame is a collection of over 2000 socks.
This is one of his old Soviet made motorcycles. The brand name is "Jupiter".
This one is a "Vosnod-zm"
Some old Soviet electronics
Some non-electronic technology

And our host also has a collection of 2000 dolls

Our host also has a collection of 2000 ties
He made this stained glass himself
His daughter also makes various craftwork, and this is some of her work
Some more of his doll collection
And now we get to the wine for the wine tasting. My guides had already advised me to bring my own glass, otherwise I would have to use one of the glasses on the shelf. While I had my own glass, Zane ended up using one of the existing glasses for her taste of the wine.
Here our host is demonstrating an invention he made in order to sneak in his wine to games. My having his binoculars, he claimed he could get past the guards and bring in his tasty wine...
